Lynwood Unified Spreads Holiday Cheer with Food Distributions Supporting Hundreds of Local Families

To ensure families and students receive support this holiday season, Lynwood Unified – in partnership with the Lynwood Partners Educational Foundation – hosted a series of free food distribution events in November, serving more than 500 families and community members.

On November 12 and 19, the Lynwood Park basketball court transformed into a hub of care and connection as Community Schools and Student Services staff distributed frozen produce and goods provided by the Los Angeles Food Bank, offering meaningful support to families across Lynwood during the holiday season.

The initiative will culminate with a final event at 9 a.m. December 3 at Lynwood Park (directly behind the skate park). Availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

“We are so grateful to the L.A. Food Bank and the Foundation for helping us provide essential support to our community during such challenging times,” said DeEttra Davis, case manager for the District’s McKinney Vento program, which provides support and resources to students experiencing housing instability. “These partnerships bring hope to families and remind us that when we come together as a community, we can make a lasting difference.”

Originally launched in 2020, Lynwood Unified’s food pantry program continues to serve students, families and community members facing hardship. Throughout the year, the Student Services Department also collaborates with various agencies to offer food giveaways, toy drives and other support aimed at meeting the community’s needs.

With many still experiencing limited access to nutrition benefits, the District and Foundation remain dedicated to supporting the whole child and ensuring essential resources are available to those who need them most this holiday season. Through strong partnerships and community engagement, Lynwood Unified continues to ensure that every family has access to the resources and opportunities needed to thrive.
