Lynwood Unified’s Youngest Learners Shine During Alphabet Parade Celebration

Mark Twain Elementary School’s youngest scholars recently took center stage during the school’s vibrant kindergarten Alphabet Parade on February 18, a joyful celebration that spotlighted the power of Lynwood Unified’s Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program and strong early literacy instruction across campus.

Featuring two DLI classes and two traditional kindergarten classes, the parade showcased the strong academic foundation being built in every classroom. Students created colorful alphabet wings displaying a letter with corresponding words and illustrations in English and Spanish. As families cheered them on, students confidently presented their winged letters, beaming with pride as they demonstrated their growing skills.

For DLI students, the event reflected the program’s commitment to bilingualism and biliteracy from the earliest grades, proving that students do not need to be native Spanish speakers to thrive, but instead grow as bilingual learners together in a supportive environment. The event gave students a meaningful opportunity to build confidence and celebrate important milestones with their families.

At Lynwood Unified, experiences like the Alphabet Parade reflect a broader commitment to nurturing confident learners from day one. Through innovative programs like DLI and engaging early literacy experiences, the District ensures students develop a strong academic foundation and the skills needed for lifelong success.

Families interested in enrolling their students in the DLI program for the 2026-27 school year are encouraged to fill out the DLI interest form. Children enrolling in TK must be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2026. Children enrolling in kindergarten must be 5 years old before September 1, 2026.
