Wilson Elementary Boosts Literacy with 3rd Annual Family Reading Night

Wilson Elementary School welcomed families to its third annual Family Reading Night on September 24, promoting literacy and encouraging family involvement in student learning. The evening offered hands-on activities that made reading engaging, interactive and fun for students across all grade levels.

Families rotated through a series of games designed to spark collaboration and reinforce literacy skills, including giant Scrabble, crosswords, reading bingo, connect four with letters and memory activities. Students worked alongside their families to solve puzzles and challenges, boosting comprehension and building confidence.

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader,” said Trionne Magee, principal of Wilson Elementary and Lynwood Unified alumna. “Family literacy is important because the foundational skills for reading begin in the home. When parents are involved, students achieve more. Events like this help strengthen the connection between the school and families as partners for increasing student achievement."

Lynwood Unified continues to prioritize literacy and creating engaging learning opportunities for students and their families. Family Reading Night is one of many initiatives that strengthen the connection between home and school and inspire a lasting love of reading.
