Lynwood Unified and City Join Together to Support a Safe Start to the School Year

[August 12, 2026] Lynwood, CA — This back-to-school season, Lynwood Unified School District is partnering with the City of Lynwood to support a safe and welcoming first week of school, as part of a new City-District collaborative that aligns resources to improve outcomes for students, families, and neighborhoods.

With the first day of school beginning August 12, one of the first priorities of the City-District collaborative is providing a welcoming presence during morning arrival.

“The first day of school is an important moment for every family, filled with excitement, hope, and sometimes a few nerves as parents watch their children begin a new school year,” said Lynwood Mayor Gabriela Camacho.

“Supporting our students is a responsibility we all share, and our partnership with Lynwood Unified School District is a reflection of what we can accomplish when our City, schools, and families work together. We want every student and parent to know that their community is here for them, committed to making sure they feel safe, welcomed, and supported as they begin another year of learning and growth.”  

As students return for the first week of school, City officials will be present near the freeway underpasses along Spruce Street, Bullis Road, and Wright Road, as well as at Lynwood Park and Ham Park. These coordinated efforts reflect the City-District collaborative’s ongoing commitment to public safety and youth well-being.

“Many of our students and families walk to school each morning, and we want them to feel welcomed and supported as they begin a new school year,” Lynwood Unified Chief of Security Paul Garcia said.

“By being present along routes students and families use every day, we have an opportunity to connect with our community and help make the first week of school a positive experience for everyone.”
