Dr. Robert Gilchick, of the L.A. County Department of Public Health, joined our Superintendent's LIVE with some important information about reopening schools.

things are looking so much so helpful and so positive you know compared to where we were few months ago and I think that all of the finally all of the safety measures protocols preventive strategies that that everyone everyone is contributing to you know and yes our data over the course of the pandemic would say that if one is infected with covid-19 the risk of death was maybe about one in five hundred or one and a few hundred if you have the vaccine at fully vaccinated the risk of he's like one in a million literally so I'm having them being able to come back to school even even if it's part time is incredibly important right just for those not not just pick up on on the academics in the learner which has been difficult for some students in the distance format but to to meet you know to start again the social connections that are so important you know the emotions social call development is another important thing that happens in our school R1 I mean we really feel that the benefits of having children back in person in schools far far outweighs any any risk it this time particularly since we have very very very safe ways to make you know the school is 6 your place for the students kids have been out of school for the better part of a year really any I think anytime in the presence of their peers and their teachers now is beneficial close to the end of the school year I think what we're really looking at is a plan and an expectation that in the fall you know all students will be back in school full-time that's really what we're planning for we've been to your school's out and we do a site visit at every school that opens in order to assist not a we're not policing but where they are to see how the practices are being implemented to offer any recommendation to help them overcome any challenges they're having with very few exceptions schools have scored very highly on our valuation tool and generally need you know just just a little help for a little bit of assistance to get some questions answered so the schools are really doing a
