Ensuring Safe & Secure Campuses

We are taking bold steps to enhance campus security and emergency preparedness by implementing state-of-the-art systems, upgrading infrastructure, and investing in advanced tools that foster a safe, supportive learning environment.

New Safety Technology

In the 2024-25 school year, LUSD launched two powerful new systems across all campuses:

  • CENTEGIX Rapid Incident Response System
Every staff member is equipped with a discreet, wearable badge that can instantly alert 911, first responders, and administrators during an emergency. The badge also enables a facility-wide lockdown with the press of a button and includes real-time location tracking for rapid response.

  • Raptor Technologies Visitor Management System
All campus visitors are now required to present an approved ID upon entry. The Raptor system screens individuals against national databases, including sex offender registries. Approved visitors receive a printed badge featuring their name, photo, date, time, and destination on campus—strengthening accountability and campus control.

“These enhancements reflect the District’s unwavering commitment to creating a safe learning environment for all students and staff while strengthening our emergency response protocols, tools and resources,”
Chief of Security Paul Garcia

Communication and Security Upgrades

LUSD is further reinforcing safety through campus-wide infrastructure improvements:

  • New Digital Public Address (PA) Systems
Funded by Measure K, modern PA systems are being installed at all elementary and middle schools. These systems allow school staff to efficiently communicate announcements, conduct fire drills, and respond to emergencies.

“Many of our schools have gone several years without functional PA systems. We are excited to restore this critical component for safety and security,”
Ricardo Jurado, Director of Technology and Innovation

  • Campus Security Cameras
Cameras are being installed in high-traffic areas such as hallways and gymnasiums at Firebaugh High School, Cesar Chavez Middle School, and Hosler Middle School—offering greater visibility and protection across school sites.

  • Enhanced Outdoor Lighting
Outdoor lighting was upgraded at all elementary schools to improve visibility during early morning and evening hours.

Ongoing Safety Commitment

In addition to these improvements, the District maintains a comprehensive approach to safety that includes:

  • A dedicated School Safety Task Force

  • Regular staff training and emergency drills

  • Ongoing collaboration with local law enforcement and emergency services

“At Lynwood Unified, safety and security are more than priorities – they are commitments we uphold every day to ensure our students and staff thrive in a protected environment,”
Superintendent Patrick Gittisriboongul
