Parent & Family Engagement Policy
We believe that families are essential partners in the success of our students. When schools and families work together, students thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.
What is Family Engagement?
The U.S. Department of Education defines family engagement as the regular, two-way, and meaningful communication between families and schools about student learning and school activities. This includes:
-
Parents playing an active role in supporting their child’s learning
-
Encouraging family involvement in school life
-
Including parents as full partners in decision-making and school improvement efforts
-
Carrying out meaningful activities as described in Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
LUSD’s Family Engagement Vision
Lynwood Unified welcomes and embraces all families—of every race, ethnicity, and cultural background—as valued members of our school community. We believe that strong family-school partnerships are key to student success.
Our commitment is to:
-
Support families as active participants in their child’s education
-
Ensure respectful, collaborative relationships between schools and families
-
Provide opportunities for parents to share leadership and decision-making
-
Promote shared responsibility for student outcomes at every school site
Through this policy, we aim to create a districtwide culture where every parent and caregiver is informed, empowered, and connected.
