Cesar Chavez Middle School Potential Renaming

Your Voice Matters!

Lynwood Unified School District invites students, families, staff, alumni and community members to participate in the process of exploring a potential new name for Cesar Chavez Middle School.

On March 26, 2026, the Lynwood Unified Board of Education unanimously voted to rename Cesar Chavez Day to Farmworkers Day, reflecting a desire to honor the broader farmworker movement while responding to recent community concerns. At the same meeting, the Board directed staff to begin the process of potentially renaming Cesar Chavez Middle School, and to include community voices to ensure alignment with shared values and priorities.

The renaming process is grounded in community voice, transparency and shared decision-making, with the goal of fostering thoughtful dialogue about how the school’s name can best represent the Lynwood community. Through in-person meetings and an online survey, community members are encouraged to share their perspectives and help guide the decision-making process.

This webpage will serve as your central source for updates, meeting dates, and opportunities to share your input.
