A Continuum of Services
Program and Service Options
If your child qualifies for special education services, you have the right to be informed of all available public and non-public school programs that may meet your child’s needs. By law, students with disabilities must be educated with their non-disabled peers to the greatest extent appropriate—a principle known as the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
LRE means that students should participate in general education classrooms and activities as much as possible. The District will only consider more specialized settings if a student’s disability prevents them from making progress in a general education classroom, even with additional supports and services.
We recognize that each student is unique. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) team works together to determine the most appropriate placement and services based on the student’s individual strengths and needs. This may include:
-
Instruction in a general education classroom with supports
-
A combination of general and specialized instruction
-
Specialized programs tailored to the student’s needs
-
Modifications to the curriculum, when appropriate
Our goal is to build supports and services around each student—rather than requiring the student to fit into a preset program—ensuring they receive a high-quality education in the most inclusive environment possible.
