Preschool Program

The Lynwood Unified Special Education Preschool program provides a continuum of quality early intervention programs and services designed to meet the unique educational needs of children through individualized education programming (IEP).

Our preschool programs provide intensive, language-rich learning environments designed to support early academic success and prepare students of all abilities for Kindergarten. Each child receives instruction tailored to their individual ability level using a state-adopted curriculum aligned with the California Preschool Learning Foundations.

All classes are led by highly qualified, credentialed teachers and supported by instructional aides and related service providers. These professionals work as a team to meet each student’s unique educational needs, as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Support staff may include:

  • Speech & Language Pathologists

  • School Psychologists

  • Nurses

  • Occupational Therapists

  • Physical Therapists

  • Behavior Specialists

Services may be delivered within the classroom (push-in) or in a separate setting (pull-out), depending on what best supports the child’s goals and development.

When determining program placement for preschool students, we follow the principle of the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)—meaning we aim to place students in the most inclusive setting appropriate to their needs. An LRE placement is considered appropriate when a student is making meaningful progress toward their IEP goals and can benefit from the learning environment.

Mission

Our mission is to support our students in reaching their highest developmental, social, and academic potential. We recognize and respect that each child brings to school a desire to learn, a unique rate of development, and diverse cultural and language experiences. We are committed to promoting each child’s cognitive, physical, and social-emotional well-being.

Vision

Our Preschool Program is committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive programs and services to prepare our young children for life-long learning.
