Community Schools
In May 2023, Lynwood Unified was awarded a $24.5 million Community Schools Partnership Program grant by the California Department of Education to provide social-emotional services and community resources to students across 16 schools over the next five years.
This investment builds upon the success of Lynwood High School, which has served as a Community School under the Los Angeles County Office of Education since 2019.

What is a Community School?
Community Schools take a whole-child, whole-community approach to education. This model weaves together academics, health and mental wellness services, youth development, and family and community engagement—transforming our schools into neighborhood hubs of opportunity and support.
By working with trusted community partners, we provide students and families with access to:
-
Academic support and tutoring
-
Mental health services
-
Family engagement programs
-
Extracurricular and enrichment opportunities
-
Health and wellness resources
Our Community Schools initiative is rooted in the belief that student success goes beyond the classroom. We are committed to nurturing the academic, social, and emotional well-being of every student by building strong partnerships with families and the broader community.
We believe that when schools, families, and communities work together, everyone thrives.
Comprehensive Support Teams
As part of the grant, each Community School will be supported by a dedicated team that includes:
-
Community School Case Managers
-
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialists
-
Licensed Clinical Social Workers
-
Certified Student Support Analysts
These professionals work in close collaboration with educators, families, and community agencies to meet the academic, cognitive, physical, and social-emotional needs of our students.
Together, we are creating stronger schools, healthier students, and a more connected Lynwood community. Join us in building a future where every student has the support they need to succeed.
