Kinder & Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a specially designed early learning program that serves as a bridge between preschool and traditional Kindergarten. Offered at all Lynwood Unified elementary schools, TK helps young learners gain the academic and social skills needed for long-term success in school.

TK is ideal for children who turn 4 years old on or before September 1 and may benefit from an extra year of development before entering traditional Kindergarten. With today’s increasing academic expectations, TK provides a strong foundation in a nurturing and age-appropriate setting.

Why Choose TK?

TK offers:

  • A full-day program (6½ hours) tailored to the needs of young learners

  • Focused instruction in early reading, writing, and math

  • Development of social-emotional skills and self-regulation

  • A mix of whole group, small group, and hands-on learning

  • Participation in Kindergarten activities like music, art, and motor skill development

  • Lunch and recess with Kindergarten peers to support social growth

TK uses California’s Kindergarten standards to help children build confidence, curiosity, and readiness for lifelong learning. It’s a great start for a bright future!
