COVID-19 VACCINATION UPDATE

The District made the exciting announcement that Lynwood community members are now able to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by appointment at Firebaugh High School. The service is made possible by a partnership with St. John’s Well Child Center and Family Center. The District is currently releasing information on how to schedule an appointment.

FACILITIES UPDATE

Chief Business Officer Gregory Fromm provided an update on the Lynwood High School building improvement project and the relocation of students to the Lynwood Middle School campus beginning next year. A rendering of new LMS portables was displayed, and an emergency resolution highlighted that enables timely repairs and equipment at the District’s middle schools and other campus sites to provide available space for classroom instruction and essential educational services.

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

In honor of Women’s History Month, the District celebrated the women of Lynwood through a special video presentation that highlighted the hard work and great contributions from District staff. The presentation included Lynwood High School teacher Audrey Casas, who was recently named 2021 Woman of the Year by Assembly District 63.

RECOGNIZING FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS

Several volunteers of the District’s Food Pantry program were acknowledged for their work in continuing to meet the needs of the community. Volunteers included members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the City of Lynwood, the Lynwood Rotary, AmeriCorps, and LUSD leaders and staff. The Food Pantry has continued to serve families with pick-up-and-go groceries and other essential items on a weekly basis throughout the pandemic.

STUDENT REPORTS

Students of the District’s high schools and Lynwood Community Adult School provided updates. Schools encouraged their students during ELPAC Testing Week, from March 22-26, with a pep rally and provided resources for success. The Lynwood Adult School is preparing for graduations from the High School Diploma program. Sports has returned to competition, and teams from Firebaugh and Lynwood high schools can finally go beyond training and line up against other schools. Firebaugh is celebrating Kindness Week with care packages, while LHS is preparing to honor standout students who made the Principal’s Honor Roll.
