Board of Education Highlights 01.13.22

 

The following are highlights from our Board of Education meeting on Jan. 13, 2022. In-person attendance was limited as a COVID-19 safety measure and the meeting was available via livestream on YouTube.

 

STUDENT BOARD REPORTS

Pathway High School

  • Pathway is continuing college enrollment campaigns. Representatives from Cerritos and Compton College are scheduling students for one-on-one meetings to answer college questions. 
  • 15 scholars have met early graduation requirements for the second quarter. 

Vista High School

  • ASB had a yearly holiday spirit week. Blankets, pajamas, socks and toys were donated to local organizations and nonprofits. 
  • Vista continues to collaborate with community colleges to enroll students and complete financial aid applications. 

Firebaugh

  • Firebaugh is implementing a blocked schedule in hopes of minimizing contact between students and staff. 
  • Fall/Winter break credit recovery has been extended. 
  • The College and Career team is helping students prepare for financial aid submissions and college applications. Next week, a representative from the University of La Verne will be doing on-the-spot admissions. 

Lynwood HS: 

  • Lynwood is holding a Compton College Dual enrollment workshop where students learn how to earn college credit. 
  • The College and Career Center will hold a Cerritos College workshop for students and parents to learn about admissions. 
  • The University of La Verne will be giving students on-the-spot admissions opportunities.
 

Lynwood Community Adult School

  • The Adult School is opening its first College and Career Center this year beginning on Feb 1 in an effort to support students in achieving their academic goals.


    SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
  • Board of Education Appreciation Month: Board members were honored and presented with flowers.
    ● Reopening update 

○ Students welcomed back safely 

○ Administered COVID tests to employees 

○ Testing students for COVID 

○ The District has re-establishing a COVID task force to meet weekly 

○ Safety Supplies 

■ Purchased and distributed KN95 masks for all employees 

■ Purchased medical grade "blue masks" for all students 

○ Temporarily paused all employee conferences, and or training that require travel to ensure additional support is available for sites. 

○ Sending all district staff: TOSAS, coordinators, and directors to assist with classroom coverage. 

○ Updated and posted quarantine protocols at all school sites. 

○ Monitoring district and community transmission. 

  • One year in partnering with St. John’s Well Child and Family Center to provide vaccines.  
  • Possible COVID relief fund coming.


FACILITIES

 

Lynwood Unified is completing improvements across the District, including reviewing repairs made to transition the Lynwood Middle School campus into  Lynwood High School Bullis. Electrical work at Cesar Chavez Middle School is also being completed.
