Lynwood Unified Joins Lynwood Alumni to Host 24th Annual College Conference

Lynwood Unified high school students received an in-depth look into the higher education system and vital advice from alumni as they prepare to embark on their postsecondary journeys during the 24h annual Alumni College Conference in October.

The event – hosted by the Lynwood Alumni Association in partnership with Lynwood Partners Educational Foundation and the District – featured keynote speaker Joseph Romero-Reyes, a first-generation college-goer who shared his experience of growing up in Lynwood and pursuing a non-traditional college journey.

Students met with representatives from such colleges as Cal State Fullerton, Compton College and LATTC while participating in workshops in which they learned the difference between community colleges, private universities, CSUs and UCs; how to choose the right major; and the first-year college experience. They also dived into topics focused on securing scholarships and financial aid through the FAFSA and the California Dream Act applications as well as the best way to receive various forms of support throughout their educational journeys.

The Alumni College Conference has provided students with a stepping stone to college and career for more than two decades while inspiring scholars to take the reins on their education, explore the possibilities of their future and make the most of their college experience.
