Lynwood Unified Seniors Receive On-the-Spot Admissions During College Resource Event

Over three dozen graduating seniors from Firebaugh and Lynwood high schools earned on-the-spot college admissions from Whittier College during a multi-day college resource event, boosting their confidence and motivating them to finish their high school journeys strong.

Lynwood Unified partnered with Whittier College and Destination YOUniversity Podcast to empower students to work one-on-one with college representatives to determine their eligibility and learn about the programs and resources available to them as they enter college. More than 20 students from each school received same-day admission offers in November, just weeks ahead of the November 30 college application deadline.

“This is important because students need to feel confident and can build confidence through this process,” said Destination YOUniversity founder Cynthia Colon, Ed.D. “The college admissions process should not be done alone, and we are happy to partner with Lynwood Unified to provide students another avenue to explore their college opportunities.”

Destination YOUniversity is a well-renowned podcast, college essay bootcamp and dream college academy, where mentors, educators and college-bound students team up to ensure they find the perfect fit as they graduate and pursue their college and career goals.

College and Career Center counselors will continue to support Lynwood Unified seniors with Cal State, UC and private university applications and college essays through the end of the month. Lynwood Unified students receive a wide range of tools and resources and inspiration as they prepare to embark on life after high school, including the annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caravan, financial aid workshops, college and career fairs, and more.
