VIDEO: Lynwood High Students Receive Free Haircuts in Time for the Holidays

Just in time for the holidays, Lynwood High School students were gifted free haircuts and hairstyles as part of the inaugural Cuts for Kids charity event on December 13.

Over a dozen celebrity hairstylists and barbers filled the Lynwood High gymnasium to provide free haircuts and styles to 46 students who waited patiently for their turn and left with brand-new looks and confident smiles as they enter 2024.

"Being here makes me feel happy because I've never seen or heard of an event like this where schools are giving free haircuts and styles to students," Class of 2027 student Briana Daugherty said. "It makes me feel excited for the next four years."

LHS Assistant Principal DeAnthony Friday, who helped spearhead the event in conjunction with local barber Sol’Le, said the event was aimed at spreading holiday cheer among students while exposing them to new opportunities.

"Given that we're approaching the holiday season, we wanted to give back to our school community, ease the financial burden on families by offering haircuts for free and empower our students to explore entrepreneurship in a field that doesn't necessarily require a college degree," Friday said. “We're grateful to the barbers and hairstylists who helped provide some holiday cheer to our students and we hope to expand the opportunity next year.”

Participating in the event – which was sponsored by the LHS Young Black Achievers Student Union and the EduCare Foundation – was LHS senior Ethan Dominguez, who has been a barber for the last four years and was inspired to support his peers.

"It was really important to me to want to give back to my community and give kids the confidence they need to enter the new year in style," he said.
