Seniors from Lynwood and Firebaugh high schools proudly celebrated their next steps during National College Decision Day on May 1, as students revealed their postsecondary plans through spirited campus celebrations while encouraging younger students to plan for their futures.
Students announced commitments to a wide range of colleges and universities, including prestigious institutions such as Dartmouth College, University of Southern California, UCLA, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, Cerritos College and more. Others shared plans to pursue career technical education or military service.
Lynwood High School hosted a Spotify-themed event on its baseball field, where students took the batter’s circle to share their future paths. The celebration featured interactive games and food prepared by students from the school’s culinary arts program.
At Firebaugh High School, the campus transformed into a carnival-themed extravaganza complete with face painting, portrait drawing, arts and crafts, and a festive photo booth, offering seniors a memorable way to mark this milestone.
Lynwood Unified is proud to partner with the Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) Collaborative to host the annual SELA College Sendoff, celebrating the Class of 2025 from Lynwood and Firebaugh high schools, along with seniors from the communities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Florence-Firestone, Huntington Park, Maywood, South Gate, Vernon and Walnut Park.
This free event will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 1 at Firebaugh High School and will feature inspiring SELA alumni, scholarship opportunities and networking activities to help students prepare for their next chapter. Students and families are encouraged to register here to attend.
