Lynwood Unified celebrated its dedicated and inspiring classified professionals during the May 22 Board of Education meeting, proudly recognizing Thomas Marquez – a reliable and hardworking member of the District’s maintenance team – as the 2025 District Classified Employee of the Year.
The honor was presented during Classified School Employees Week, which celebrates the essential staff who keep schools running smoothly – from front office and tech support to food services, custodial work, and classroom assistance – ensuring every classroom is prepared and every student feels supported.
Marquez joined Lynwood Unified in 2019 as a substitute custodian and was quickly recognized for his strong work ethic and positive attitude, earning a permanent role as a gardener in 2021. Since 2023, he has served as a Maintenance Worker II, consistently going above and beyond to create safe and welcoming environments by supporting facilities, grounds and special events. His reliability, flexibility and pride in his work make him an invaluable asset to the District.
Beyond his professional commitment, Thomas is deeply connected to the Lynwood community. A proud father of five sons who all graduated from Firebaugh High School, his personal investment in the District’s success shines through in everything he does.
Lynwood Unified proudly honors Thomas Marquez and all exceptional classified employees for their vital contributions to the success of students, staff and schools. These dedicated professionals are the backbone of the district, working behind the scenes to create safe, supportive, and thriving learning environments. We are deeply grateful for their service and lasting impact, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of this year’s Classified Employees of the Year.
